ARR 2013

USC-CSSE at 20:
Looking to the Future of Integrated Systems and Software Engineering Research

The way we compute and construct systems today continues to quickly evolve as new technologies such as multi-core processors, clouds, nanotechnology, mobile computing, social networking, and “big data” mature.  This has been underscored by the proliferation of tremendously varied and powerful vendor technology offerings and our sponsored research efforts to better understand the vision for software-intensive systems of the 21st century.  In addition, we have our current fiscal situation that challenges us to make careful, affordable investments with respect to systems to support needs such as healthcare, defense, transportation, energy, and security.

This year's CSSE Annual Research Review (ARR) is scheduled to take place March 12-14, 2013, and will focus on these evolutionary trends.   In addition, many of our PhD alumni have been invited to come and share with us what they have been doing since leaving USC, what was their most valuable USC experience with regards to their career, and what are their technology trends/projections for the next 10-20 years.  The event will provide participants with several forums for discussing the future of system architectures, system and software quality technologies, collaboration technologies, system and software development process evolution, and impacts to cost and schedule modeling.  These forums will include research presentations from CSSE personnel, PhD alumni, affiliates, and friends as well as focused workshops on March 12th.  The workshops will discuss information and ideas on a major new Systems Engineering Research Center initiative we are leading on ilities (non-functional requirements) Tradespace and Affordability Analysis.

The objective of the ARR is to exchange ideas, highlight shared problems, and attempt to identify promising models, methods, techniques, and tools for engineering systems of the 21st century.

We hope to see you in March!
